Celebrating the life of
William G. Foster, Jr.
April 02, 1959 - June 10, 2011
William Bill Gene Foster, Jr.
Bill passed away Friday, June 10, 2011 unexpectedly at Memorial University Medical Center after a short illness. Bill was born in Savannah, Georgia on April 2, 1959 to William Gene Foster, Sr. and Peggy Byrd Foster. As a young child, Bill enjoyed growing up at the family home on Isle of Hope. Many fun days of camping and boating, fishing, crabbing and all the things little boys enjoyed doing. Before graduating High School the family moved to Skidaway Island. Bill continued his explorations on the new beautiful, unspoiled island. Many times he would surprise mom with the "catch of the day." After graduating Savannah Christian Preparatory School in 1977 he attended Armstrong State College. Soon after, he became employed with the Branigar Organization. In addition to working with Branigar, Bill also volunteered with the Southside Fire Department and ultimately became the Chief of the Skidaway Island Division. Bill was Head of the Safety Division for the Branigar Organization and also worked with the Engineering Department. Engineering was his passion and he soon left Branigar in 1985 to continue his career with Thomas and Hutton Engineering Co. until his untimely death. Bill met his future wife, Marian in 1984 and they were married on August 3, 1985. Bill was a lover of life - never met a stranger. He enjoyed his "Geechee" hunting club – where he could be with the "boys" to hunt and fish. He devoted his life to his family, was a true southern gentleman, and always made everyone around him feel welcomed and loved. Bill was a loving, caring and devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and great uncle. He was a Charter Member of Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder of the Church, and was very active with the Emmaus Community. Bill leaves behind his wife Marian, daughter and son-in-law Landon Foster Way Charles and grand-dog Fletch, step-daughter Hellen Willett, mother and father, Bill, Sr. and Peggy Foster, sister and brother-in-law Linda Foster Denhard David, Sr., niece Melissa Denhard Phillips Scott and great nephew Blake Foster Phillips, nephew David R. Denhard, Jr. Brooke and great niece Mary Grayson Denhard. Bill is also survived by loving and caring uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 13th, 2011 from 5 – 7 PM at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 14th, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church followed by a private graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Rock K. Reed, Allan Pulaski, Charles Ezelle, Mike Trull, Walker Martin, and Harold Barry.
Remembrances can be made to Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church, 50 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, GA 31411 or to Coastal Georgia Emmaus, PO Box 60784, Savannah, GA 31420.

To the Foster Family, my sincere condolences. I was privileged to see Bill frequently at Sea Island Company, where I work, and where I came to have an enormous respect for him as a professional, but more than anything, as a fine, fine man. He was such a southern gentleman, gentle, kind, always with a kind word and a smile on his face. Always reserved and yet always warm and welcoming at the same time. I cannot begin to imagine your surprise or your grief. My heart goes out to you all. My special regards and thoughts go to Bill, Sr., whom I also had the privilege to know through work. Bill, I am so sorry for your loss. He was an apple who fell smack dab at the foot of the tree. I know that he got many of his most endearing and wonderful traits right from you. I am so deeply saddened by Bill’s passing I can hardly put the words together to express my sympathy. Bill was one of my closest friends in high school. We were always hanging out in a group exploring Skidaway and just trying to figure out life. We each went our separate ways after high school, but to me it felt like we would all be “forever friends”. One of my last memories of Bill was at our 20th High School reunion. Bill invited a couple of us over to your house prior to one of the reunion events and he spent the entire time showing us family pictures. He was so very, very proud of you all. We teased him asking how he had gotten so lucky to marry such a beautiful girl – he just beamed. He talked about how wonderful his daughter was and what a great little equestrian she was. It was the most heart-warming thing to see a man so in love with his family. I am so very glad to know our next reunion will be in heaven. May God give you all peace and bless your days until you next see Bill.
- Cathey Millard Hansen, Denver, CO

I was heartbroken to hear that Billy had passed away. While we all move on with life as grown-ups, the friends and love from that time are a big part of us and part of who we become. Even now at such a sad time, it is hard for me to think of him without smiling. I was so glad to get re-acquainted with the loving father and family man that he had become at our 20th reunion, but he was, at the same time, still the Billy I knew in our teens - the sweetheart of a guy with the slow drawl, impish smile, and a twinkle in his eye that I know is there still. My deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to his family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
- Riley Allen, Atlanta, GA

There are no words that could fully describe how I felt about my Dad. From the beginning of his marriage to my mother, and even before then, he made me feel right at home. When I say that I was doubly blessed to have a second father, I couldn't have asked for anyone better. Memories flood my mind of nights out dancing on the dock to Neil Diamond songs and his day to day exquisite dinners. He was my Daddy B. and even though I'm in Africa, I feel as if he's right there with me on the safari chase. I love you, Dad! No one can make me laugh like you do. See ya later with the angels above!

Dear Marian, Not only was I the luckiest person to be friends with you, but with you came your Billy. I was doubly blessed. When Terry and I were just dating you and Billy swept us away on the boat, fed us all kinds of wonderful food, and we laughed until the night sky encircled us. How many times did we go out on Billy's ole Grady White? I can't count. His arms were always open to us and we loved the warmth and power that came with his bear-like hugs. I love you both dearly.
